FOI nails cost of NSW Government advertising

FOI, and some trawling of budget documents by the NSW Opposition provided the basis for this report in yesterday’s Daily Telegraph that almost $1billion has been spent by the Government on “advertising” since it came to power. As there is no current limitation on what constitutes legitimate advertising at public expense, things are only going to get worse between now and the election in March 2007.

Of course all governments do this but it doesn’t justify the blatant misuse of public money for political promotion. We can expect plenty of Federal Government messages to also come our way before that election late next year.
