NSW Review overtaken?
Where the announced review leaves the long awaited review of the NSW Privacy and Personal Information and Protection Act, who knows? That review scheduled to be tabled in Parliament in November 2004 has still not appeared. All the signs have been that the Act has so many deficiencies that this has been in the too hard basket for the last 18 months. The NSW Government general interest in privacy protection issues, in particular the failure to appoint a Privacy Commissioner, led the Australian Privacy Foundation to award it a 'Big Brother Award' as a menace to privacy.
