Now we need the QLD agencies to adopt an open access licensing framework, like GILF (www.gilf.gov.au), to license the information they make available in a manner that permits effective re-use. I suspect the issue of licensing hasn't entered many minds, and the same restrictive crown copyright statements will remain the status quo for some time to come. This might also be something for the Web 2.0 Taskforce to look at.
ReplyDeleteYes it is part of the terms of reference for the Taskforce. All our governments entering this new era will need to reconsider both copyright and the 'cost recovery' and revenue generation policies that have dominated thinking for the last 20 years.
