NSW Government moves on E health

The NSW Government has awarded Cerner Corporation a $40million contract to provide an intergrated electronic medical records system for the 8 NSW area health services by 2009. This ABC Online report quotes the Premier saying the new system will reduce hospital errors and cut costs. This project goes back to 2002, and appears to have encountered lots of problems so far.

It's still something of a mystery how the Federal and state initiatives on E health fit together, and privacy continues to be an issue. There have been no public reports about the NSWHealthelink pilot project.
