Access card: privacy dangers worse than Australia Card

Professor Graham Greenleaf Co-Director of the Cyberspace Law and Policy Centre UNSW has published a draft report "Quacking like a duck: The national ID Card proposal (2006) compared with the Australia Card (1986-87)". The report is a working draft as all relevant information about the access card to enable a full comparison has not been released by the Federal Government. The report concludes that the access card proposal of 2006 has almost all the features of the failed Australia Card proposal of the 1980s, and because of the addition of a microchip, the privacy dangers are worse.

Yesterday's Sydney Morning Herald included this detailed report about the access card.

The battle about the merits of the proposal is heating up.
