Parliamentarians' entitlements report given state secret treatment
Sean Parnell in The Australian reports on a Freedom of Information application that produced documents that "suggest the federal government sat on the report of the Belcher review, going so far as to shred duplicate copies and keep others in a safe in a minister's office until Labor had been re-elected." The long slow reform process is still unexplained, and the unsatisfactory accountability and transparency arrangements for payments to parliamentarians remain unaddressed.
